Complacency - Getting Serious About God

Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14

When we first accepted Christ into our hearts and decided to follow Him, we were very excited and told everyone how wonderful it is to be a Christian. The time that this excitement lasted was different for everyone but gradually it faded away. Now is the time to get it back.

It is not enough to pray, and attend church. We are called to spread the good news of the gospel, but often we decide that just by living a decent life, others will know how great God is. We lie to ourselves because we are scared of ridicule or perhaps we are lazy.

God is Holy and calls us to be Holy. The word Holy means separate or to be cut out from the rest. We use the term ‘a cut above’ for things that are better. God is called Holy because He is above, better than, and separate from everyone else.

Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth! Psalm 96:9

God's holiness is significant because He calls us to be Holy too. We don’t think about holiness, so we don’t know how serious the instruction of our Holy God is for us to be holy as He is Holy.

When the word Holy is used in the bible to refer to us, it means that we are not only set apart from the world, but we are dedicated to the service of God. We are holy people. We serve the Lord.

Let’s be honest, we aren’t Holy. Our initial excitement over knowing that God loves us has waned. We still believe and love the Lord, but often we go through the motions of being a Christian out of habit. We go to church, pray, sing, and participate in church activities, but the rest of our time is spent in worldly pursuits and worries.

We are complacent in our relationship with God even knowing the way He wants us to walk. We know what He asks us to do and what is best for us. Reading His word, going to church, praying unceasingly, doing good works, and telling the world about Jesus is how He wants us to be separate from non-believers.

That’s exactly why Satan does everything possible to stop us from doing those important things. We want to fit in. We don’t want to be considered strange or a religious fanatic. We would be ridiculed, laughed at, pushed out of the group, and not accepted. Wouldn’t that be terrible?

We need to look around at the world and see the sin that is now considered acceptable. We need to see the hatred, anger, and misery of people who don’t know the truth. Do we want God’s best, or do we want mediocre? We will never do anything for God if we settle for mediocre and complacency.

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, Revelation 1:1

It is time to get serious about God. The world will end. Our lives will end, and it could be tomorrow. Will God say come in my good and faithful servant?  Will He say we have done great things for Him? The time is now. He is the way. He is the truth. He is eternal life with Him. He is Holy. He saved our lives from death and eternal life in hell. Others are dying in their sins. Are we so complacent that this doesn’t mean anything to us anymore?

We need to take our beliefs seriously. It is time.
Persecution of Christians in the United States has already begun.

For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. Luke 1:49

Prayer: Our Father who art in Heaven, Holy is your name. Lord, this world is scary. The things we know are wrong and seen as right. We, how believe in you are made fun of and are outsiders. Everything is the opposite of how it should be. Help us not to be afraid of living for you, speaking for you and showing the world your Holiness. Let us take seriously our faith in You starting today. Amen
