Reaping the benefits of being a Christian

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38

The biggest benefit of being a Christian is, of course, eternal life with Christ  We have not only received mercy and grace and had our sins forgiven.  There is so much more.

Sometimes I meet people who have received Christ as their Savior and Lord who are miserable.  This is not right.  Jesus wants us to have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control in our abundant life with Him.   These are the fruits of the Holy Spirit which He has provided for us.

Why do we still struggle along in life as if we didn't have a Father, Lord and Savior who loves us and wants the best for us?

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!  Matthew 7:11

Do we actually think that the world's misery is God's fault?  Because His gift of eternal life is free, do we think that we are done and that life here will now be perfect?  The world is controlled by the powers of darkness and this is where our physical bodies must live for awhile.  In order for us to enjoy the riches of what God wants to give to us, our spirits, our minds must not be part of this world.

Be not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.  Romans 12:2

Once we have accepted the Lord and asked Him to come into our hearts, we need to stay in communication with Him, stay close to Him and seek to do what is the next right thing according to the scriptures.  If we continue to live the same way we were living before He saved us, nothing will change in our lives while we live here.

When we stay close to God and communicate with Him daily, reading His word and praying for knowledge and wisdom, we will begin to live life with a different attitude and experience life in a more joyful way.

Abundant life does not necessarily mean money or things.  Abundant life is having the fruits of the Holy Spirit that were listed above.  Abundant life is a life free from worry and fear. God's love is perfect.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. 1 John 4:18

God's word is clear in this.  He wants to be first in every part of your life.  Though He already knows, He wants you to tell Him what is going on in your life.  He wants to commune with you and be the center of your world.  It is not too much to give to Him when you consider what you get in return.

Don't be a stagnate Christian who is not receiving all of the benefits He wants to give you. Make Christ the center of your life.  Don't put Him off in a corner and only call on Him when you need help.  You wouldn't like it if your children did that to you.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
