Why Should We Attend Church?

Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! ...Psalm 150:1-6

What have we seen on the news this week?  Has there been anything good?  Are we tired of work, school, and just life in general?  Are we looking forward to Friday so we can thank God? TGIF
This week I have been busy, frustrated, and seen news of fighting, death, storms, stealing, lying, cheating, hatred and evil. This week, a man we know died in his sleep at age 59 and we don't know if he knew our Lord or not.  This is the world we live in.  It is scary and speeding by, running us over without regard.

For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. John 2:16

As Christians, we need refreshing from God and from each other.  We need to be with people who believe as we do and who will encourage and uplift us in our times of need.  Many times people say their home is where they can rest and be themselves and that it is a place of peace.  Well God's home, His church is that, and so much more.

Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. Colossians 3:11

I know that attending church takes time.  I understand that we can worship anywhere, anytime.  I know that sometimes there are hypocrites in the church.  But if we find a perfect church, it won't be once we join.  I also know that the devil is working overtime and we are not even putting in our 40 hours for God.

Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Psalm 111:1

We need to attend church. Don't worry if you are late.  Don't worry about your clothes or if you know the songs or not.  It doesn't matter.  God loves you just the way you are.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25

One or two hours a week is not too much to give to God.  Our children need Sunday school and we need to worship and sing and praise God for all of His goodness.  The church is a place to find peace, to renew our minds, to calm down and breathe, to give our fear to God, and be taught so that we might grow stronger.  Who doesn't want to be stronger as our world becomes more and more evil?

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

Not attending church on a regular basis gradually allows us to slip away from a close relationship with God.  I know this from experience.  The longer you go without attending, the easier it becomes and less you will commune with God daily.  Eventually the world becomes so important that we are trying to serve two masters.

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  Matthew 6:24

My friends, you are also my family. You are Christians.  I want to know that we are all worshiping our Father, loving each other, being obedient to His word, and purifying our hearts together. I want to know that you are in a safe, loving place and are being renewed for the coming week.  God is so happy when you worship Him.

Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 1 Peter 1:22

If you have not accepted Christ as your savior, attending church will not save you, but you can learn about Christ there and the people will be willing to lead you to the truth in love.  Don't miss this opportunity to change your entire life and live eternally with Christ, forgiven of your past choices.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10

Attend church my friends. Receive mercy and grace from God our Father.  Let God know how much you love Him and how grateful you are for His gifts and for watching over you.  Bow your knee at His greatness.  He is Lord.
