Biblestudytool.com says that Kindness is An attribute of God and quality desirable but not consistently found in humans.

Sad but true this tells us that there are two types of kindness.  God's kindness and human kindness.

God's kindness is easy to understand.  His kindness towards us is to bring us to Him.  He loves us and gave His son for us.  God's kindness is also seen in His help in times of affliction and need. His kindness is in everything He does and doesn't do and is an example to us so that we can also be kind.

Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance. Romans 2:4

Human kindness toward each other is very important to God.We are to love kindness and exhibit kindness as it says in Ephesians and in many other places in the Bible.

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Eph. 4:32

Kindness is sometimes difficult.  Giving favor and being gracious to others, especially those who don't seem to deserve it, is almost impossible.  Most of the time when others are kind to us, we can easily be kind back, but when someone is unkind, our initial reaction is to be unkind in return.

There may not be much we can do about our initial reactions except to learn to not act on them.  We can, however, change our thoughts , words, and actions so that we exhibit God's kindness.  Maybe it is even a 'fake it till you make it' moment, but in time, we will truly feel the kindness and love of God flowing through us to others.  I believe it takes practice.

Kindness manifests itself in actions and responses.  In actions, we can give physical items to those in need without expectation of payment of any kind.  We can give to Christians and to those who don't know the Lord who might even repay our kindness with evil.

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Luke 6:35

We can also respond with kindness or smile for a helpful person.  What about when someone in another car flashes a bad sign to you, how do you respond?  It is sometimes to hard to be kind but look at Proverbs.

A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.  Proverbs 11:17

Being kind also includes building people up and not tearing them down.  Don't you love being around people who make you feel good about yourself?  Well, they do too.  So let's try to make others feel good about themselves, be kind in our actions and our responses, and make God proud.  What does the Lord require of us?  Here it is.

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
